Lounge chairs being restored - Grete Jalk & Mobel Mann
I am currently restoring a sofa and armchair by Grete Jalk and a matching sofa and armchair by Mobel Mann of Germany.
A Grete Jalk PJ56 Oak armchair by Poul Jeppesen
The PJ56 is a very distinctive chair designed by Grete Jalk in 1956.

The jointing arm detail whereby the rear leg embeds through the armrest is a real feature.

Quite the counterpose to the later chairs made with a high emphasis on their flat packing qualities and thus exportability
This is a very early piece and rare. What sets it apart and makes it a real collectors piece is the fact that it is constructed in European Oak and has imprinted makers and Danish furniture control stamps. Likely to have been made 1956-58.

The chair requires new strapping and upholstery. (leather cushions borrowed from another chair)
A Grete Jalk 118 sofa by France Son

The condition of the Teak on this sofa is just mind blowing. I have been all over it and I have have not discovered a single blemish, not even a scratch. There must be one! It hasn't been sanded as the there is good depth of grain on show and no tell tale signs. Just utterly amazing condition. Only the smallest colour change to the front of the arms. Really if you were transported back to the 60's and had just received this as your flat-packed sofa direct from Denmark you would have no complaints. Except perhaps the lack of upholstery!!

All that is required is new upholstery.

Would look sleek in black leather (the cushions are borrowed from another sofa)
Sofa and armchair by Mobel Mann of West Germany.
This is a seriously nice sofa and armchair.

I have never ever seen an identical design so I have never been able to identify a designer. It is of solid construction - not designed to dis-assemble. Therefore it is possibly an early piece. It has a nice slack profile. Elegant arms similar to many Jalk designs. A very distinctive recessed join between the back and the arms which I have not seen before. The lovely swept curve of the back is another interesting feature.

There are some close similarities with the model 72 sofa and 'Stanford' armchair by Folke Ohlsson but I believe this to be of far superior design and build quality.

Needs re-oiling and to be restored to its original strapping design. Using rubber straps with clips. And new upholstery

I think the photos speak for themselves!
